Content Ownership & Licenses

Your Content

You retain all ownership rights to the content you create and share on Aletheia, including posts, comments, photos, and messages. However, to operate our platform, you grant us certain licenses:

  • Storage and Display: A license to store, display, and deliver your content to you and your approved friends
  • Technical Operations: A license to modify content for technical purposes (e.g., resizing images, format conversion)
  • Safety and Moderation: A license to review content for safety, security, and Community Guidelines enforcement

Your Responsibilities

  • You represent that you own or have the rights to share all content you post
  • You will not post content that infringes on others' copyrights, trademarks, or rights
  • You are solely responsible for the content you share and any consequences arising from it
  • You understand that deleted content may persist in backups for up to 30 days

Our Content

All platform features, design, code, logos, and trademarks are owned by Aletheia and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

Content Moderation & Guidelines Enforcement

We are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive community. Our moderation process is designed to be fair, transparent, and respectful of your voice while protecting all users.

How Moderation Works

1. Reporting

Users can report content that violates our Community Guidelines. Reports are submitted anonymously and reviewed by our moderation team.

2. Review Process

Our moderation team reviews reported content against our Community Guidelines. We consider context, intent, and severity when making decisions.

3. Content Editing for Safety

In some cases, we may edit content to remove specific harmful elements while preserving the core message (e.g., removing explicit language while keeping the sentiment). When we edit content, we mark it as "edited by moderator" for transparency.

4. Enforcement Actions

Depending on the severity and frequency of violations, we may:

  • Issue a warning with educational resources
  • Remove or edit the violating content
  • Temporarily suspend your account
  • Permanently terminate your account

5. Audit Trail

All moderation actions are logged in an audit trail for accountability, transparency, and quality assurance. These logs help us ensure consistency and fairness in our enforcement.

Appeals Process

If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, you have the right to appeal:

  • You can submit an appeal through your account's moderation history
  • Provide context and explain why you believe the decision was incorrect
  • A different moderator will review your appeal with fresh eyes
  • You will receive a response within 48-72 hours
  • Appeal decisions are final, but you can always reach out with new information

Our commitment: We strive to be fair, consistent, and transparent in all moderation decisions. We're human and may make mistakes—that's why we have an appeals process.

Intellectual Property

Copyright Infringement

We respect intellectual property rights and expect our users to do the same. If you believe content on Aletheia infringes your copyright, please contact us with:

  • A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
  • The location (URL) of the allegedly infringing content
  • Your contact information and a statement of good faith belief
  • Your electronic or physical signature

Repeat Infringers

We will terminate the accounts of users who are repeat copyright infringers.

Termination & Account Deletion

Your Right to Delete

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion:

  • Your profile, posts, and personal data will be removed within 30 days
  • Some data may be retained in backups for up to 90 days for security purposes
  • Anonymized data may be retained for analytics
  • Content subject to legal holds may be retained longer as required by law

Our Right to Terminate

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines
  • You engage in illegal activities or abuse the platform
  • Your account has been inactive for an extended period
  • We are required to do so by law
  • Continuing your access poses a security or legal risk

When possible, we will provide notice and an opportunity to appeal before terminating your account, except in cases of severe violations or legal requirements.

Time Limitation

You agree that any claim or cause of action arising from your use of Aletheia must be filed within one year after such claim arose; otherwise, the claim is permanently barred.

  • Email notification to your registered email address
  • A prominent notice on the platform
  • Requiring you to accept the updated Terms before continuing to use the service

Your continued use of Aletheia after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you don't agree with the changes, you should stop using the service and delete your account.

These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines, constitute the entire agreement between you and Aletheia.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without our written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
